The Etxepare Basque Institute’s new annual publication brings contemporary creativity from the Basque Country to international audiences in a bilingual (Basque–English) format.
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The Etxepare Basque Institute presents BASQUE. Creativity & Culture, an annual magazine with a clear mission: to share the vitality of Basque culture and contemporary creative practice with the world. Published bilingually (Basque–English), the magazine offers a fresh, up-to-date look at the Basque Country’s cultural ecosystem, spotlighting creative practitioners and the stories that link local life to global conversations.
Geared to international audiences, the magazine aims to connect contemporary Basque creative practice with professionals in the cultural sector and academic networks. Available digitally at etxepare.eus and basqueculture.eus, with a limited print run for distribution at trade fairs, universities, and international cultural circuits.
The first issue explores the dialogue between tradition and innovation through the musical phenomenon of Zetak. The issue also features a selection of visual artists from new creative generations, a conversation with Gala Knörr on identity and diaspora, an article on the international network of Basque studies programmes and chairs promoted by Etxepare, and cultural recommendations from Bele. Taken together, the magazine paints a contemporary portrait of a culture in motion.
The magazine was conceived and coordinated by the Etxepare Basque Institute team, with contributions from external authors and art direction by Kiku Aromir.
Culture as a strategic priority
With this initiative, Etxepare advances its international cultural promotion, building a narrative that positions the Basque Country as a contemporary European cultural player. The initiative is also part of the Euskadi Globala foreign‑policy strategy, reinforcing culture as one of the country’s principal international assets.
