Basque dancer Igor Yebra is offered to direct the National Ballet of Uruguay

The National Ballet of Uruguay, Sodre, has offered Basque ballet dancer Igor Yebra the position of artistic director. If the Bilbao-born dancer decides to accept the offer, he would replace Julio Bocca as head of one of Latin America’s most prestigious ballets.

It was Bocca himself – artistic director of the National Ballet of Uruguay, Sodre (2010-2017) – who invited Yebra to present his project to the company. This way Yebra could on the legacy of the great Argentine dancer at Sodre after eight seasons of hard work. Yebra himself said that is was an honour to receive such a proposal, although he reminds the public that he has yet to make a final decision.
Born in Bilbao, Igor Yebra professionally debuted in the Víctor Ullate Ballet (1988-1996). When he began his solo career, he joined the Australian Ballet (1997-1999), the first of many companies from around the world with which he has collaborated. In 2006 he founded his own dance school in Bilbao and two years later he was asked to put into operation the Municipal Dance School of Amurrio.
