Basque literature to the world!

Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.

2014-12-04

With the help of the dissemination and promotion of Basque culture by  the Etxepare Basque Institute, some Basque books have been translated into different languages in the recent months. Zazpi etxe Frantzian of Bernardo Atxaga, Azken Garaipena of Iban Zaldua and Pankreas of Patxo Telleria will be available in foreign countries from now on.

Zazpi etxe Frantzian - Shtëpia e Tetë of Atxaga, has been translated into Albanian by IDK publisher. The novel talks, through humor and metaphors, about the darkness of our world.

The comic-book Azken Garaipena - A vitoria final of Iban Zaldua, on the other hand, has been translated into Galician by Urco publisher. The graphic novel won in 2012 the Euskadi Prize for Children and Youth Literature, and places us in the Germania of the year 2052 with Zaldua’s script and illustrations by Julen Ribas.

The play Pankreas -Trebusna Slinavka- was translated into Slovenian and was performed at the Festival Borštnikovo Srečanje of Maribor. This work was premiered in March 2014 and continues on tour in Basque theaters. In the words of its author, "Pankreas" is "a contemporary tragicomedy" written in verse; in fact, it is the first play written in verse in Basque language: "vasconum Primitiae theater."
