Ljubljana
The Arriaga Theatre´s own production ‘Moto-Membra Jesu Nostri’, will travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia, as part of the European project DoSEL – Drama of Smaller European Languages, an initiative that promotes exchange between European theatres working in minority languages.
The performance will take place on October 2nd at the Cankarjev Dom Cultural Centre, with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute.
The piece is a staging of the *Membra Jesu Nostri* concert, composed by Dietrich Buxtehude in 1680. This cycle of seven cantatas dedicated to the feet, knees, hands, side, chest, and heart of Christ will be interwoven with a text written and performed by actor Eneko Sagardoy, telling the story of a man who disappears forever in an alleged motorcycle accident and the love of the one who remains.
DoSEL project
Co-financed by the European Union, DoSEL aims to promote cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe through collaboration between performing arts institutions in different countries. Eight theatre companies from Slovenia, Malta, Croatia, Estonia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Catalonia, and the Basque Country are participating in the project, with the Etxepare Basque Institute serving as a strategic partner in promoting the international dissemination of Euskara.
‘Moto-Membra Jesu Nostri’ will be presented in its original version, including the texts in Euskara (with Slovenian subtitles), reinforcing the presence of Euskara on the European stage. The show features musical direction by Andoni Sierra, staging by Lucía Astigarraga, an original text and interpretation by Eneko Sagardoy. The concerto Membra Jesu Nostri composed by Dietrich Buxtehude in 1680, is performed by the Conductus Ensemble.
This participation reinforces Etxepare Euskal Institutua´s commitment to the international promotion of contemporary Basque creation and emphasizes the role of theatre as a vehicle for the internationalization of minority languages.
