Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The Basque audiovisual sector has been working at one of the most important television and media markets worldwide, MIPTV , under the brand ‘Basque Audiovisual’, with support from EIKEN Cluster - Basque Audiovisual and Digital Content and the Etxepare Basque Institute. Companies that have been working at Cannes have made a positive assessment, as they have had the opportunity to contact producers, distributors and buyers from every continent, and have seen for themselves the booming interest in Basque audiovisual production.

Ten Basque companies were present at this edition of MIPTV: Bainet, Baleuko, Bilbao Web Fest, EiTB, Expressive Media Project, Old Port Films, Pausoka Entertainment, Prime Time Media, The Blackout Project and Winkle 360. With their own stand at the fair, Basque companies have held 5-10 meetings a day to promote and internationalize their processes and formats.
The interest in Basque productions was palpable at the fair, and the fair itself is growing year after year. For example, the company Expressive said that the quality of fiction works in MIPTV is on the rise. Also noteworthy, as Bilbao Web Fest pointed out, is the growing trend towards digital content.
As a novelty, virtual reality has reached the fair this year. The company WINKLE 360 says that MIPTV is already carving out a space for the promotion, distribution and creation of strategic alliances in the virtual reality industry.
In the weekend running up to MIPTV, MipFormats and MipDoc were organized. The first one brought together the world´s most important producers, CEOs, buyers, and distributors to discover the best entertainment formats and future must-sees. This year, Pausoka was selected among more than 100 companies worldwide as one of the five finalists for MIPFormats International Pitch competition. Taking second place in the competition, Pausoka’s "The Best in History" sparked a great deal of interest and sold 7 chapters of their production "Sleeping with the Enemy" to the German public-service television ZDF.
The company Old Ports Films participated in the MIPDoc, where it had the opportunity to meet and work side by side with international companies like NHK of Japan, National Geographic and Al Jazeera.
