The Havana Film Festival, held this year from 6 to 16 December, will feature a few Basque films, including Gure Oroitzapenak (Our Memories). Producer Mikel Arredondo will travel to the Cuban capital to present the movie.

Gure Oroitzapenak is a feature made up of 12 short films around the life and literature of Sarrionandia. Adabaki, the production company behind the movie, has this to say on its website: “Sarrionandia has long been a poet with no image” (owing to his disappearance from public life after he escaped from prison in 1985). To counteract this absence, the project aims to reflect the author in images, taking his poems and stories to the screen. Twelve directors from the Basque Country and beyond have participated in this group project, each telling a different tale about Sarrionandia from their own point of view. The directors are: Oskar Alegria, Öscan Alper, Asier Altuna, Mireia Gabilondo, Eugène Green, Itziar Leemans, Josu Martinez, Fermin Muguruza, Ane Muñoz, Maider Oleaga, Carlos Quintela and Maialen Sarasua Oliden.

The film will be screened twice in the Otras Latitudes (Other Latitudes) section of the Havana Film Festival: once on Sunday, December 9th at 10.30 p.m. at Cine Acapulco, and the second time on Monday, December 10th at 3 p.m. at Cine Riviera. The producer, Mikel Arredondo, will be there to present the film to the public, along with writer Joseba sarrionandia himself and the ex-manager Angel Azkarraga "Matxitxa".

One of the participating directors in Gure Oroitzapenak, Fermin Muguruza, will also present another movie in Havana, Black is Beltza, which has had a successful run in the Basque Country.
