The AIE performers’ association has chosen the line-up for the Artistas en Ruta programme during the first half of 2020. All the performers – including the three Basque bands on the list: Hakima Flissi, Mississippi Queen and Nerabe – will receive subsidies for the concerts that will take place in venues all over Spain during the first six months of the year 2020.

The Basque bands selected for the half of the year include two groups from Bilbao and one from San Sebastián. After winning the demo contest hosted by the Basque radio broadcaster Gaztea in 2018, the Bilbao-based singer Hakima Flissi has been giving concerts across the Basque Country and abroad. Her concerts feature soul vocals with an R&B influence against a contemporary electronic beat. Meanwhile, the Bilbao band Mississippi Queen are known for their funk, soul and jazz sounds. The playlists for their live gigs feature a mixture of classic songs and original compositions. Finally, Nerabe is a young (they came together in 2016) San Sebastian band, clearly influenced by 80s pop-rock dance music, and has already played at some of Spain’s major festivals.

The aim of the Artistas en Ruta programme is to enable young bands to play in venues all over the country. The programme puts out two calls every year, for a series of concerts from January to June and from September to December. The selected bands all receive a small grant so they can play four to six concerts in different venues around Spain.
