Merina Gris Live Performance Now Available on KEXP

The US radio station and digital platform KEXP has released a new instalment of ‘Live on KEXP’ featuring the Basque band Merina Gris. The release includes a recording of their live concert held on 30 October 2025 at the Church of La Encarnación in Bilbao. The recording took place at the BIME festival, a collaboration between KEXP and the festival.

KEXP, an independent public radio station based in Seattle, USA, is recognised internationally both for its DJ-curated musical programming and for the quality of its ‘Live on KEXP’ sessions. This format showcases artists from around the world through carefully produced live recordings, bringing music from diverse scenes to international audiences.

Merina Gris are a trio from Donostia who blend electronic pop with experimental sounds. In the session recorded for KEXP, they performed five tracks, including ‘Ardi Latxen Herrian’ (featuring Cris Lizarraga), ‘Hiru Damatxo’, ‘lilili’, ‘Irteera’, and ‘Antes No Era Más Feliz’. The performance captures the essence of their live show and their unique sound.

This recording in Bilbao forms part of the ‘Live on KEXP in Bilbao’ initiative, organised in collaboration with BIME and with the support of various organisations, including Basque. Music., Sounds from Spain, ICEX and AIE. As part of the same initiative, via the Basque. Music. platform, Basque artists Marte Lasarte, Maloa Brothers and Txopet also took part in the festival, each performing a showcase for international industry professionals.

The Basque. Music. project falls under the internationalisation strategy spearheaded by the Etxepare Basque Institute and Musika Bulegoa. In partnership with the Basque Government, the two organisations promote Basque music at international trade fairs and industry events, helping to raise the profile of artists, strengthen networks within the sector and expand opportunities to reach wider audiences.
