Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 and the Basque Language and Culture Readership of the Etxepare Basque Institute have organized a lecture entitled “History of safeguarding the intangible heritage in Navarre and Euskera” by Ekaitz Santazilia, expert in the field.

The lecture, organized by Beñat Muguruza – the Basque Language and Culture reader at the university – provides continuity for the activities carried out every year at the Sorbonne related to the Basque language. It will be held on March 23rd at 11:30am, in hall 420B.

Discussion will revolve around the historical, political, ideological and sociolinguistic factors used by the government of Navarre to maintain and disseminate the Basque language.

The lecture will be delivered Ekaitz Santazilia. Graduate of Basque Philology from the University of the Basque Country, Santazilia is a member of the "Navarre Intangible Heritage" Chair. In addition, he is the director of the scientific journal Fontes Linguae Vasconum: Studia et Documenta.

Throughout his professional career, he has worked on various aspects concerning the state of affairs of intangible assets in Navarre. In 2014 Santazilia wrote one of his most significant works working in close collaboration with Juan Jose Zubiri. The article dealt with safeguarding children’s use of Basque to support language transmission in Navarre.
