Harkaitz Martinez de San Vicente and Mikel Ugarte, txalapartaris from Oreka TX, took part in the ninth Taiwan International Percussion Competition, held this week at Taipei’s National Concert Hall. The sound of the Oreka TX txalaparta continues to travel around the world, taking part in festivals the world over, meeting artists from different disciplines and backgrounds.

The event in Taipei brings together 13 international groups and musicians, including the Basque txalaparta duo, and musicians from France, Uzbekistan, the United States, Japan, Lebanon and Siberia. On this occasion Oreka TX performed a concert called "Dialogues" and shared the stage at the National Concert Hall with the Taiwanese percussion duo Nana Formosa.

Oreka TX has managed to take their instrument from the rural countryside to the city without losing its true essence. The duo will showcase a renewed and powerful txalaparta, both ancient and modern, traditional and innovative. Harkaitz and Mikel incorporate materials such as stone and wood, traveling around the world to share ancient sounds and contemporary compositions.
