Poet and columnist Rikardo Arregi was in Croatia taking part in events organized by the University of Zadar, building on the translation workshops initiated by Leipzig University in Weiden, Germany.
Arregi´s poetry was analyzed at the translation workshop on the island of Pašman from May 3rd to 6th. Poems by the Catalan poet Enric Casases and the Galician writer Isaac Xubin were also translated. The languages used for the translations were Croatian, German, Catalan, Galician and Basque.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce the poetry of Arregi together with other authors who write in different languages of the Iberian Peninsula. The works translated in the Pašman workshop were presented on May 6th in a poetry reading open to the public.
Arregi’s last activity took place yesterday, May 8th, with a lecture titled Euskal poesia eta biok (loosely translated as ‘Basque poetry and two’). In addition to analyzing the history of Basque poetry, Arregi talked about what has influenced his writing the most, introducing the audience to the work of other Basque poets.
