The 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) has selected the Basque Country as its Spotlight territory for 2026. As part of Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, the initiative will showcase the Basque audiovisual industry’s creative talent, production environment and opportunities for international collaboration. The programme brings together project presentations, screenings and professional networking events.
Basque in the Spotlight: connecting the industry internationally
The Basque in the Spotlight presentation will take place on 19 November at 17:15 in the Capella room at Nordic Hotel Forum. The session will introduce the Basque film ecosystem, funding schemes, tax incentives and a new generation of filmmakers and production companies.
A Spotlight and Focus Countries matchmaking dinner is scheduled for 19 November at 19:00, providing opportunities to establish professional connections and explore future co-productions.
La Koreana and The Daughters
A pitching session for La Koreana, directed by Joana Moya, is scheduled for 18 November from 16:15 to 17:15. The project, currently in development, explores the mining heritage of Bizkaia, the relationship between nature and extraction, and labour history. It is taking part in the Baltic Event Co-Production Market to seek international partners.
A screening of The Daughters is planned for 19 November, with the time yet to be confirmed. Directed by Daniel Romero Bueno, the film was selected for PÖFF’s Goes to Cannes 2026 showcase.
Film screenings and Kimuak
A screening of Caballé, directed by Patricia Ortega, is scheduled for 18 November at 19:00. The film about soprano Montserrat Caballé is competing in PÖFF’s Official Selection; the festival lists it as a Spanish-Belgian co-production, not a Basque production.
A screening of the Kimuak Basque short film programme is also planned, with its date and time yet to be confirmed. Kimuak supports the international visibility of emerging Basque filmmaking talent.
