The Etxepare Basque Institute, in partnership with the Association of Dance Professionals of the Basque Country (ADDE), is inviting applications from professional Basque dance companies to participate in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, taking place in August 2026 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Thanks to its collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute, Dance Base – Scotland´s National Centre for Dance – is welcoming submissions from dance companies in the Basque Country and aims to select two companies to include in its programme. The selected companies will give two one-hour performances, which means that the shows must be short in format.
Submissions that meet the following conditions will be eligible:
- Small-stage performance (6 x 9 m stage).
- Duration between 20 and 40 minutes.
- Small-format proposals (between 1 and 3 dances + no more than 1 technician).
- Minimal text or use language that is easily understandable by the majority of the audience.
- Simple set design and lighting.
- Be a member of ADDE or be part of the BASQUE DANCE WORKS CATALOGUE (participation in this call implies a commitment to be included in the 2026 catalogue).
The selected companies will attend the festival from 6 to 16 August 2026:
- Monday, 6 August: outward journey and rehearsal.
- 7 to 16 August: performances (9 performances, Monday 10 August free).
- Monday 17 August: return journey.
The Fringe Festival is one of the world´s largest and most important performing arts events. It is held annually in Edinburgh, Scotland, every August, coinciding with the Edinburgh International Festival. It is a highly significant platform for artistic companies, offering visibility and international networking opportunities, though it demands considerable financial and organisational effort to make a lasting impact. Most of the companies participating in the Fringe make a considerable investment to ensure their presence. With the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute and ADDE, the selected companies will enjoy the following benefits:
- Assembly Festival Fringe will pay companies 50% of the total box office earnings from their performances.
- The Etxepare Basque Institute will cover the following expenses in full:
- Registration of companies, accommodation, return flights and per diems (€80 per day per person), as well as any exceptional technical expenses.
- ADDE will provide each company with an incentive of €600 (including VAT) per dancer (up to 3 dancers), as a support grant, payable upon submission of an invoice for the entire stay.
- The Etxepare Basque Institute will provide companies with a distributor, producer or assistant to help promote Basque initiatives in Edinburgh for two weeks.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 11 February 2026 (inclusive). Full details can be found here.
