Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
A total of 27 students studying Basque language and culture in the Etxepare Basque Institute university network will take an intensive course at the Aurten Bai barnetegi in Amorebieta-Etxano. Since 2012, the Etxepare Basque Institute has been offering grants for immersive programs to learn Euskara.
The programme will be divided into two parts. Seven students who are already in Amorebieta-Etxano will attend the first session, which runs from 14 to 25 July. Irene Larraza, director of the Etxepare Basque Institute, visited the students on Monday 14 July. Three students are from Poland, and one each from France, the United Kingdom, Uruguay and Barcelona. They were placed in groups according to their level of Basque (between A1 and B2), together with other students from the barnetegi. The goal of the program is to enable participants to progress by one level in their Euskara proficiency.
The second session will run from 4 to 15 August with a total of 20 students in attendance: six from Poland, four from the University of Barcelona, three from Uruguay, two each from Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, and one from France.
Grants to learn Euskara
Thanks to an agreement between the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Aurten Bai Foundation, students from the Institute´s university network can study Euskara at the Aurten Bai barnetegi language immersion school in Amorebieta-Etxano. The two organisations equally share the cost of the course, accommodation and meals, while students pay for insurance and travel.
To promote and raise awareness of Basque studies abroad, the Etxepare Basque Institute offers courses in Euskara and Basque culture at 35 universities around the world. In 2024, more than 1,300 students were enrolled.
