This year, Suns Europe – the leading performing arts festivals dedicated to Europe´s minority languages – will hold its grand finale on December 6th at the Giovanni Theatre in Udine. With support from the Etxepare Basque Institute, Verde Prato will take the stage as the first artist representing the Basque language, delivering a personal and powerful performance.

Verde Prato

Verde Prato is the musical project of Ana Arsuaga, a creator who combines experimental pop, electronic music and highly expressive vocals. Her work fosters a dialogue between Basque musical tradition and contemporary sound exploration, resulting in intimate and poetic universes.

Maddi and Ibai Atutxa

The Basque language will feature in other events on the festival programme in the days leading up to the final. On November 28th and 29th, Navarra-born vocalist Maddi will perform in concert, and on December 4th, Ibai Atutxa, University of the Basque Country professor and columnist for the weekly news magazine Argia, will present his book “Barbaroak eta zivilizatuak”.

Suns Europe Festival

Suns Europe was first held in 2009 in Udine (north-eastern Italy) as an initial encounter revolving around Friulian, a non-official language with around 600,000 speakers classified by UNESCO as ‘definitely endangered’. The initiative came from the local radio station Radio Onde Furlane (broadcast since 1980). Since 2015, Suns Europe has established itself as a music festival renowned for its commitment to cultural diversity and contemporary creation in minority languages.

Featuring a program that blends concerts with literary and artistic events, Suns Europe will once again bring together voices and ideas that reflect the vitality of languages from across Europe in Udine during the year´s final days.
