The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia, will host an evening with Sigma Project Quartet in concert with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia. The event is part of a special ´Ventana Vasca´ (‘Basque Window’) programme dedicated to the performing arts of the Basque Country. The concert will take place on 27 April at 8pm.
The National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia will be joined by the long-acclaimed saxophone quartet Sigma Project. The group has grown beyond a simple quartet to become an invaluable vehicle for instrumental music in the 21st century. The concert will feature a masterly performance of ´Concerto for saxophone quartet and orchestra´ by Philip Glass, who will be celebrating his 85th birthday in 2022. Glass’s concert not only shines a spotlight on the saxophone, but also underscores the instrument’s broad timbral and emotional power. This will be the Colombian premiere of this magnificent piece.
Colombian maestro Alejandro Posada, who has conducted nearly 75 orchestras in over 20 countries, the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia will also perform ´Death and Transfiguration´ by Richard Strauss.
