Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich (Metamorphosis Dance) will present their new choreography, ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, at Teatro Regio di Parma in Parma, Italy, on 17 February. The work is co-produced by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza and Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma, in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute. The choreography features 16 dancers from Aterballetto, one of Europe´s foremost dance troupes, in a 20-minute performance.

The centrepiece of the choreography is ´Rhapsody in Blue´ (George Gershwin, 1924), a hybrid of jazz and classical music themes. February 2024 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the musical composition, providing the ideal occasion for the creation of this new piece. The choreography moves in sync with the music, portraying various stories and concepts within just a few minutes.

The 30th Performing Arts Fair dFERIA of San Sebastián will open this year with ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ on 10 March at the Victoria Eugenia theatre. Aterballeto, considered Italy’s leading contemporary dance company and the country´s main permanent ballet production institution, will present a three-part programme for dFERIA, featuring three choreographies: Yeled, Shoot Me and Rhapsody in Blue.

The choreographers designed ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ during their artistic residency at the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute. The Institute has entered into a contract with Aterballetto, formalizing this collaboration between the choreographic pair and the company.
