The first translation workshop organized by the University of Leipzig’s Department of Translation Studies and Applied Linguistics took place from October 19 to 22 in Weiden, Germany, under the auspices of the Asociación Internacional de Lengua y Literatura Catalana, Institució de les Lletres Catalanes, the University of Zadar and the Etxepare Basque Institute.

The first day of the four-day program featured talks and seminars on the translation of poetry, followed by a round table discussion chaired by linguist Elisenda Bernal on the theory of poetry translation. Over the following days, poets Sònia Moll, Lucia Aldao and Rikardo Arregi presented their own translations of their work as well as translations by Carsten Sinner, Nikola Vuletic, Constanze Gräsche, Christian Hahne, Sara Lopez Mouse and Unai Lauzirika into German, Catalan, Croatian, Galician and Basque.

The poems will soon appear in an anthology featuring minority language poetry translated into the aforementioned languages.

The aim of the event was to create a forum and workplace where Catalan, Galician and Basque literary poetry can be translated and published.
