Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
In December 6 2025, the Suns Europe festival will be held in Udine, Italy, and other locations, in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute. Suns Europe is a music and performing arts festival focusing on minority languages. In Friulian the word ´suns´ means ´sounds´. The event provides an opportunity for all European communities to learn about their linguistic rights, and to recognise the importance of cultural diversity as a heritage, a right and an opportunity.
The Artistic Committee of Suns Europe has selected Verde Prato to take part in this year’s festival. She will have the opportunity to present her music on an international stage.
Verde Prato
Verde Prato, the stage name of Ana Arsuaga (Tolosa, 1994), is a Basque singer, composer, and producer. Her work blends experimental neo-folk and electronic sounds, combining voice, keyboards, and loops. She is known for her innovative and harmonious style, her refined vocal expression, and her ability to navigate across different artistic genres with elegance.
In addition to Verde Prato, this edition of the festival will feature performances by the following artists singing in minoritized languages:
Lia Sampai (Catalan)
Mali Hâf (Gaelic)
Marius Ziska (Faroese)
Shardana Band (Sardinian)
Pop Corner (Ladin)
The band no good (Friulian)
Suns Europe
Suns Europe began in 2009 as a gathering for minority communities in the Alps. Starting in 2015, the festival´s focus grew into a place of encounter and exchange between artists of minoritized language groups in Europe. The music section aims to showcase the most original and innovative musical productions.
Every year SUNS Europe awards a prize to the best artistic productions in minority languages. The goal of the festival is to boost the cultural and creative sectors of minority language communities, with an eye to promoting contemporary art created in these languages. Unlike other festivals that focus on supporting minority languages primarily as traditions or folklore, Suns Europe views these cultures as vibrant elements tied to societies associated with societies based on continuous evolution and renewal.
Last year, Miren Narbaiza, MICE, performed in Udine with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute. During the festival´s opening weekend, Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado also staged two performances.
