Writer Kirmen Uribe at Lettres du Monde festival

The literature festival Lettres du Monde, held in the French region of Nouvelle Aquitaine, will be feature an appearance by Basque author Kirmen Uribe, among others. Uribe will present the French translation of his latest novel, Elkarrekin esnatzeko ordua (L’heure de nous réveiller ensemble; The Hour of Waking Together in English), and will deliver lectures in a number of towns.
Every year Lettres du Monde brings together around 20 professionals in the field of literature, including writers, translators and editors, in various venues across Nouvelle Aquitaine to offer presentations and lectures. The festival’s 15th edition will be held from November 16th to 25th. Among this year’s guests, are such names as Yemeni essayist Ali Al-Muqri, Argentinian writer Elsa Osorio, Syrian scriptwriter Khaled Khalifa, Spanish writer Javier Cercas and American writer and former soldier Brian van Reet.
Uribe will attend several events during the festival. On Sunday 18th, he will participate in a debate alongside Javier Cercas titled Écrire l’Espagne d’hier et d’aujourd’hui (Writing the Spain of yesterday and today) in the La Machine à Lire bookshop in Bordeaux at 11:30 a.m. He will also offer deliver two lectures in Bordeaux on Tuesday 20th, titled Être basque, un engagement littéraire (Being Basque; a commitment to literature): one in Bordeaux Montaigne University at 1:30 p.m. and the other at the Cervantes Institute at 6 p.m.
Uribe will also have other engagements in the French Basque Country within the festival framework. On Friday 16th, he will be signing his new book, L’heure de nous réveiller ensemble, at Hirigoyen bookshop in Bayonne at 6 p.m. The next day, November 17th, he will give two lectures; one titled Être basque aujourd’hui (Being Basque nowadays), at the local library in Anglet at 11 a.m., and the other, Avec au coeur la langue basque (Basque language, from the heart), at 5ème Art bookshop in Saint Jean de Luz at 5 p.m.
