Art historian and curator Mikel Onandia will give a lecture on May 27 as part of Biennale Sessions, the educational programme of the Venice Biennale aimed at universities, fine arts academies, and higher education institutions.
Entitled Trame e identità nell’arte basca. Modernità, avanguardia, postmodernità (Threads and Identities in Basque Art. Modernity, Avant-garde, Postmodernity), Onandia’s lecture will explore the evolution of Basque art over the last century, from the construction of a distinct visual language linked to identity and modernity to the new perspectives and interpretations emerging within today’s global contemporary context.
The lecture, organised by professor Iñaki Alfaro within the framework of the Basque Programme at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Etxepare Basque Institute, will bring the project I Baschi alla Biennale 1976/2026 to a close, following the events held on May 6, 7 and 8 in the context of the Venice Biennale.
