Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.

The Etxepare Basque Institute and Le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), together with the Higher School of Dramatic Arts and Dance of Euskadi (Dantzerti), are launching a call for a dance research and creation residency in the city of Montreal. The residency will be carried out in collaboration with Circuit-Est, Montreal’s dance and choreography centre.

Through this call, a dancer-choreographer will be selected to undertake an artistic residency at Circuit-Est (Quebec). To be eligible for the residency, applicants must, on the one hand, be under 36 years of age and, on the other, hold a degree from Dantzerti.

The residency will last between six and eight weeks —to be determined by the organising institutions together with the selected beneficiary— and will take place between the end of May and the beginning of July. The calendar, schedule and programme of the research residency will be managed by CALQ and Circuit-Est in collaboration with the selected dancer-choreographer. In addition, the beneficiary will have the opportunity to participate in the activities and professional meetings of the TransAmériques Festival, to be held from 28 May to 10 June.

This residency programme pursues the following objectives: to support and promote choreographic artists by providing them with an appropriate creative environment and resources for the production and dissemination of their works; to encourage the artistic renewal of choreographers through a new and stimulating cultural setting; to foster the exchange of perspectives among artists and the creation of lasting connections; to promote internationally the work and trajectory of Basque artists; and, finally, to develop and establish new networks for research, creation, production and artistic dissemination.

In order to take part in the research residency, the deadline for submitting applications is 27 March at 3:00 p.m. The guidelines for the call are available at the following link.

Ça colle au basque

Although this residency programme, developed in collaboration with Circuit-Est, was launched in 2020 within the framework of the Québec–Basque Country cooperation programme, it will now take place under the umbrella of the Etxepare Basque Institute´s ‘Ça colle au basque’ initiative. Indeed, ‘Ça colle au basque’ aims to promote exchange and collaboration between cultural agents, creators and professionals from the Basque Country and across the Francophone world, while also raising awareness of Basque culture among a community of 321 million speakers.
