III Basque World Congress launches call for papers and posters

From 20 to 22 October 2027, Bilbao will host the third edition of the Basque World Congress, organised by the Basque Government under the theme—From Basque to the World. The call for abstracts for papers and posters to be presented at the congress is now open.
Until 14 September 2026, researchers, professionals, institutional representatives, social stakeholders and members of language communities are invited to submit proposals related to the Basque language, minoritised languages and linguistic diversity.
The call particularly welcomes contributions that combine academic research with social practice, as well as innovative experiences and collaborative initiatives. The congress aims to become a space for sharing and discussing research, language policies, practices and experiences related to Basque and other minoritised languages around the world.
Proposals may address, among others, the following thematic areas:
- Research on minoritised languages.
- Language policy and planning.
- Linguistic ecology, linguistic diversity and public policy.
- Education, language teaching and intergenerational transmission.
- Community initiatives and good practices for language promotion.
- Language use in society and in multilingual contexts.
- Culture, media and creative expression.
- Digital technologies and online spaces for minoritised languages.
- Voices of the Future: Digitalisation and Innovation for the Revitalisation of Minoritised Languages.
- Language activism, identity and language rights.
- Modernisation of minoritised languages.
Submission of abstracts
Paper and poster proposals must be submitted by 14 September 2026 via email to frombasquetotheworld@euskadi.eus.
Presentation rules
- Abstracts should not exceed 300 words
- Abstracts will be evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.
- The title and abstract must be submitted as an attached document containing no information that could identify the author.
Oral presentations will last between 15 and 20 minutes and will be organised into parallel sessions. The congress will also include 60-minute poster sessions, during which authors are expected to be present to present their work and engage with participants.
How to present your own work
The body of the email should include the author´s full name, institutional affiliation, and indicate whether the proposal is submitted as a paper or a poster.
