The 24th edition of Korrika will take place from 19 to 29 March. Over the course of 11 days, it will cover 2,175 kilometres throughout the Basque Country, starting in Atharratze and finishing in Bilbao.

However, the run in support of Basque does not remain within the borders of the Basque Country. It also takes many different forms and colours in various parts of the world.

KORRIKA MUNDUAN

Korrika Munduan refers to the popular Korrikas organised outside the Basque Country, promoted by Euskal Etxeak (Basque Centres), Basque language students, teachers and collaborators. Although they take place on a smaller scale, they carry great symbolic significance: they spread the message in favour of Basque around the world and connect the Basque diaspora community.

This year, under the motto ‘Euskara gara’ (‘We are Basque [language]’), Korrika will once again extend internationally. As usual, Etxepare Euskal Institutua will join the initiative led by AEK, with the aim of supporting and promoting the Basque language worldwide. In this way, members of Euskal Etxeak around the world and teachers from the Basque language and culture readership programmes at universities have organised various activities for these days.

Each country organises the event in its own way: symbolic routes, the passing of the baton (lekukoa) from hand to hand, cultural events, music, talks and gatherings… But they all share the same foundation: placing the Basque language at the centre.
