Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.

Last December, Malba – the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires – announced, in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute, a call for applications for the 2026 Malba Writers´ Residency. This residency is intended for an author who writes in Basque and will spend time in Buenos Aires. The organisation has selected Basque writer Beñat Sarasola among other candidates, and he will undertake a five-week literary residency in the Argentine capital, from July to end of August.

During his stay, Sarasola will have the chance to immerse himself in various cultural expressions in Buenos Aires. The residency aims to foster a network with other writers selected for the Malba Writers´ Residency, as well as with the museum´s cultural curators and local publishers.

Beñat Sarasola

Beñat Sarasola (Donostia, 1984) is a writer, literary critic and lecturer at the University of the Basque Country. He holds a degree in Philosophy and in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (Universitat de Barcelona). Sarasola has published several books of poetry in Basque, including ‘Alea’ (2009) and ‘Kaxa huts bat’ (2007), and translated Philip Roth’s novel ‘Nemesis’ into Basque. In 2019, he published his first novel, ‘Deklaratzekorik ez’, with the publisher Susa. His most recent work, ‘Coca-Cola bat zurekin’, has been translated into German and Spanish. Sarasola currently works as an editor for the Munduko Poesia Kaierak collection and hosts the literary programme Sautrela on Basque television Channel 1.

Malba

In addition to Beñat Sarasola, the Malba’s Department of Literature has announced the names of four other authors who will develop their respective literary projects in 2026 residency programmes: Benoît Coquil (Brest, 1989), Diego Zúñiga (Iquique, 1987), Mayte Gómez Molina (Madrid, 1993) and Riccardo Frolloni (Macerata, 1993).

The residency is celebrating its seventh edition this year and, on this occasion, Malba will welcome an author who writes in Basque in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute. Thanks to this initiative, one of the main objectives of the Malba Writers´ Residency is being achieved: strengthening cultural relations between different countries.
