From March 5 to 7, the Quebec International Poetry Festival (FIP) will take place, featuring the participation of Basque writer Harkaitz Cano, with the support of Etxepare Euskal Institutua.
On Friday, March 6, Harkaitz Cano will take part in a morning poetry session (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., GMT-5), alongside international poets. Each author will read in their original language, accompanied by a French translation. In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the session will create a meeting point between words, languages, and cultures, open to the general public and also aimed at families.
On Saturday, March 7, Harkaitz Cano will participate in the 9:00 p.m. poetry route at La Charpente des fauves, as part of an itinerant poetry night organised in two sessions (7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., GMT-5). Together with local and international poets, readings and poetic performances will be presented in a scenic and interdisciplinary setting—featuring music, collage, and videopoetry, among other elements. Throughout the evening, a poetic journey will unfold across the venue, and the festival will close with a dance session inspired by the musical selections of the invited poets.
Quebec International Poetry Festival (FIP)
The Quebec FIP is an intense three-day celebration of poetry bringing together around twenty poets from Quebec, Canada, Europe, and other parts of the world. It takes place at the dynamic venue La Charpente des fauves, produced by Spoken Word Québec in collaboration with the Maison de la littérature, in the heart of Quebec City, recognised by UNESCO as a City of Literature. The programme includes readings, performances, outdoor activities, videopoetry, installations, presentations, and conversations. The festival embraces poetic exuberance over austerity, celebrating the diversity of languages, cultures, voices, and forms.
Ça colle au basque
Harkaitz Cano’s participation forms part of Etxepare Euskal Institutua’s initiative ‘Ça colle au basque’, which aims to promote Basque culture and creative work in the Francophone sphere. His presence at the Quebec FIP marks a further step in the internationalisation strategy of Basque culture and provides an important opportunity to increase the visibility of contemporary Basque creation within the Francophone space.
