Euskara Munduan organises winter ‘barnetegi’ in Necochea

Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
In January 2025, the Euskara Munduan programme, run by the Etxepare Basque Institute, organised a barnetegi Basque language immersion course at the Villa María Euskal Etxea in Córdoba, Argentina. Throughout the year, the participants have continued their studies from their various locations via an online platform managed from the Basque Country by Euskara Munduan. This summer, from 19 to 26 July the city of Necochea, Argentina, will host a barnetegi at the Euzko Etxea. Since the programme began in San Nicolás in 2024, the current group of students will be enjoying their fourth language immersion course.
After six months, they will meet again at the winter barnetegi organised by the Euskara Munduan programme. Throughout the training, the focus will be on developing oral skills. In addition to learning about relevant aspects of Basque culture, participants will also prepare for the A2 level subjects taught between February and July.
The programme is made up 18 students of Euskara. Lautaro Pincheira and Irene López de Vicuña will be responsible for teaching the classes at the barnetegi, using material specially prepared by Jon Urdangarin, a teacher at the Euskaltegi Maiztegi in Lazkao. The programme will also be coordinated by Gabriela Mendia (FEVA, Federation of Basque-Argentinean Organisations) and Kinku Zinkunegi (head of the Euskara Munduan programme at the Etxepare Basque Institute).
Euskara Munduan
One of the Etxepare Basque Institute’s functions is to promote awareness of Euskara among Basque communities worldwide. To achieve this, the Institute runs the Euskara Munduan programme, coordinated by Kinku Zinkunegi. Currently, around 65 Basque centres around the world offer Basque language classes with support of the Etxepare Basque Institute.
The programme originated from the Argentinan Euskaraz project, launched in 1990 to revitalise Euskara in Argentina’s Basque centres. Years later, the programme was extended to Basque centres in other countries and has since been called Euskara Munduan. Since 2018, the programme has been run by the Etxepare Basque Institute.
