Basque writer Beatriz Chivite will participate in London’s international book trade event, the London Book Fair, with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute. This year’s fair runs from 12th to 14th March in London.

Chivite will take part in a conversation with Dutch writer Astrid Alben and Welsh writer Iestyn Tyne titled ‘Writing the Same Text Twice? Bilingual Poets and Self-translation’. The moderator is Alexandra Büchler. The poets bilingual in Basque, Dutch, English, Spanish and Welsh will discuss the processes, challenges and rewards of having the capacity to write in two or more languages.

  • 12 March (13:50, GMT) in the Literary Translation Centre.

Beatriz Chivite Ezkieta (Pamplona, 1991) has lived in China, Nepal, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Italy, Taiwan and the UK, where she studied Mandarin Chinese language and comparative cultural studies. To feel closer to her roots and maintain an intimacy with the words of her childhood, she started writing poetry in Basque. Her poetry explores themes of cities, urban loneliness and critical issues of our time. She lives in London, where she works in international relations.

The London Book Fair is the meeting place for the publishing community from around the world (publishers, booksellers, copyright managers, curators, etc.) to develop relationships, gain sights and define the future of creative content.
