The training course on teaching Basque language and culture at universities abroad returns

The 12th edition, organised by Etxepare Euskal Institutua and EHU, will take place in Donostia/San Sebastián from 2 October to 27 November. Applications will remain open until 17 September.

The twelfth edition, organised by the Etxepare Basque Institute and the University of the Basque Country (EHU), will take place in Donostia from 2 October to 27 November. The deadline for registration is 17 September.
The training course on teaching the Basque language and culture at universities abroad returns this year for its twelfth edition. Following its last edition in 2024, the programme will once again bring together in Donostia those wishing to pursue a teaching career at universities abroad, offering specialised training in Basque Studies pedagogy, language teaching methodology, and the teaching of Basque language and culture.
Over the course of two months, participants will study subjects including Basque linguistics, pedagogy, teaching methodology, and Basque culture and civilisation, under the guidance of specialist lecturers. The programme combines theoretical and practical sessions to provide the tools and resources needed to tackle the challenges of university-level teaching in international contexts and to design teaching approaches tailored to different academic environments.
The course is intended for Humanities and Social Sciences graduates, final-year undergraduates, and those wishing to pursue a career in teaching the Basque language and Basque culture at universities abroad. The course is also recognised as a merit in the Etxepare Basque Institute’s annual selection process for international lecturers. In addition, participants who successfully complete the programme receive an official certificate issued by the University of the Basque Country (EHU), worth 6 ECTS credits.
This initiative forms part of the Etxepare Basque Institute’s strategy to strengthen the international presence of the Basque language and culture through university teaching and research. Thanks to the Institute’s collaborative network, Basque Studies are currently taught at 33 universities across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The continuity and future growth of this international academic network also depend on the training of new generations of specialist lecturers.
