This international conference, organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute and the University of Edinburgh, will be held on October 16th and 17th. The programme has been published and the registration is open for those who want to attend the seminars.
The international documentary fair Sunny Side of the Doc has closed its doors on another successful event for the Basque film industry. The rejuvenated image of the Basque Audiovisual Stand, organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute, Eiken cluster and Zineuskadi, was well received, and representatives from Etxepare and Eiken were at the stand to answer questions.
Several cultural stakeholders and institutions of Québec visited the Basque Country the first week of July to take part in the Québec-Euskadi professional conferences – one of the first milestones of a cultural initiative aimed at strengthening the bonds between Québec and the Basque Country.
A Basque film series will be held in July in Viña del Mar, Chile, in conjunction with the Viña del Mar International Film Festival. Three Basque films will head the bill: Amama, Oreina and Dantza.
As part of the special exam announced by the Etxepare Basque Institute, students of the Euskara Munduan programme currently teaching Basque at the Euskal Etxeas (Basque centers) in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay can certify their level of Euskara by sitting the HABE exams in Buenos Aires from 26 to 28 July. José Francisco Zinkunegi will be responsible for the exam and Argentine Euskara instructors Irene López de Vicuña and Sabrina Otegui will serve as examiners.
The international Bilbao-based company 2Theatre, directed by Svetlana Biba and Txema Perez, will premiere their latest work, Interbeing, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show that delves into the bowels of human conflict will be staged in the Ballroom of The Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh from August 1 to 25. Along with 2theatre, a series of Basque artists and companies will exhibit their work at the Festival Fringe as part of the #ScotlandGoesBasque programme.
Every year, in collaboration with the UPV Summer Courses, the Etxepare Basque Institute organizes a course for teaching Basque Culture and Language in Foreign Universities called "Bikaintasuna Euskal Ikasketetan" (Excellence in Basque Studies). Under the direction of Garbiñe Iztueta Goizueta, Etxepare’s director for the Promotion and Dissemination of Euskera, the course, while open to interested party, is designed to reinforce the Basque language and culture teachers in the lectorate network.
The Basque President, Iñigo Urkullu, received a delegation from Quebec this morning in the Office of the President. The delegation is visiting Euskadi to take part in meetings for professionals of cultural organizations held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Donostia / San Sebastián and Bilbao until Friday. Representatives of 19 entities from the linguistic, cultural and creative sectors will join more than 60 Basque representatives in this initiative.
Sunny Side of the Doc will take place June 24-27 in La Rochelle, France. The event is considered the leading international marketplace for documentary content. One more year, a representation of the Basque audiovisual sector will attend the event under the brand Basque Audiovisual, created and promoted by Eiken (Basque audiovisual cluster), Zineuskadi and the Etxepare Basque Institute.
The Scottish choreographer Janice Parker will rehearse from 17 to 21 June with HQPC, a dance and theatre collective slated to take part in the Scotland Goes Basque project. HQPC wants to put a new twist to its show “Habrá Que Ponerse Cachas” and this week Janice Parker is here them to help with the project. Parker has extensive experience in creating artistic dance performances and her objective is to extend the essence of the work to new contexts.
