Choreographers Natalia de Miguel and Jorge Jauregi of the Kanpai dance company will be heading to Montreal for an art residency to develop a new piece called No Trace. The residency is part of the second edition of a collaborative project between several institutions from Quebec and Gipuzkoa.
Filmmaker Telmo Esnal and dancer Gari Otamendi were on tour in Argentina and USA in April and May presenting their latest film, Dantza. The filmmaker continues to promote his 3rd feature film worldwide, spreading Basque culture through the universal language of dance. Now that they’re back, we took time to ask them about the experience.
The Basque Spring film festival, part of the #ScotlandGoesBasque programme in collaboration with CinemaAttic, has come to a close. From May 2nd to 4th, animators Izibene Oñederra and Begoña Vicario made a visit to Glasgow and Edinburgh, who talked about their careers, and so did film director Ana Schulz, who came with her film Mudar la piel (The Spy Within). NABO will celebrate its annual convention on May 25th and 26th in Bakersfield, California, and Irene Larraza, director of the Etxepare Basque Institute, will be there. The visit will allow her to some headway in promoting Basque culture and language in North America.
For the sixth year in a row, two Basque artists will carry out a project in the Polish city of Wroclaw as part of the summer Artists in Residence programme AIR Wro. Both of the selected artists this year, Eneka Fernández and Raisa Álava, will carry out projects related to this year’s theme: self-publishing.

The international fair of classical and contemporary music professionals, Classical:NEXT, will celebrate its 8th edition this year. The event will take place from May 15th to 18th in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), and the Basque band Trío Zukan will be part of it.
The Jean Haritschelhar Chair at Université Bordeaux-Montaigne will celebrate its annual edition on the 13th and 14th of May. The guest professor this year is Mario Santana, Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago.
The 58th Venice International Art Exhibition, aka, the Venice Biennale, will open its doors on May 11th. The Spanish Pavillion at one of the most important art shows in the world will host two Basque artists this year: Itziar Okariz and Sergio Prego.
