10 years promoting Basque language, culture and creation internationally
The Etxepare Basque Institute celebrated its 10th anniversary with an institutional event and a communication campaign that aimed at highlighting the importance of sharing and making our language, culture and creation known.

New Basque language and culture readership in Georgia
As a result of the collaboration agreement signed in September 2020 between the Etxepare Basque Institute and Tbilisi State University in Georgia, in February 2021 the university will launch a new Basque Language and Culture readership.

Award in the UK for a poem book by Karmelo C. Iribarren
The English translation of Poems the Wind Blew in has won the prestigious Highly Commended Award and is a finalist in the CLiPPA Awards (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) in the United Kingdom.

Basque. Music. to take part in leading professional fairs
The platform ‘Basque. Music.’ will have an online presence (Womex and Monkey Week) and in-person presence (BIME PRO and Fira Trovam) in international fairs for music professionals held between October and November.

´Aitzstar´ take the Etxepare Award for Best Album in Basque at the MIN Awards
This year, the winner of the Etxepare Award for Best Album in Basque was Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado for their album Aitzstar. This is the second time the band has walked away with the award.

Eider Rodriguez and Lander Garro win the Etxepare – LABORAL Kutxa Translation Prize
The Spanish translation of Bihotz handiegia (Un corazón demasiado grande [A heart too big]), a collection of short stories written and translated by Eider Rodriguez, is the winner of the sixth edition of the Etxepare – LABORAL Kutxa Translation Prize. Rodriguez shares the accolade with Lander Garro for his contribution in the translation, and the Barcelona-based publishing house Literatura Random House.

Registrations are open for Euskaraldia 2020!
Euskaraldia is an exercise aimed at changing the linguistic behaviour of people who understand Basque. The two-week-long exercise encompasses all areas of society and its main objective is to increase the use of the Basque language by changing the linguistic habits of our citizens.

Basque Cinema in the Oscar running
The Spanish Film Academy has announced three films to vie for the nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 93rd Academy Awards (The Oscars). Two out of three are Basque: The Endless Trench (La trinchera infinita) by Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and José Mari Goenaga, and The Platform (El hoyo) by Galder Gaztelu Urrutia.

In a year in which so many of our activities and projects have been suspended or delayed, we’ve used our time to redouble our efforts to finish several internal management and communication projects. An example of this is the Etxepare Basque Institute’s new website.
